ENDORSEMENTS
The February 2009 issue of the "Mensa Bulletin" had a photo of the cover and the following to say:
“The Business of Small Business" by Owen Jay Murphy (2008, 200pp., pb,; publ. Tower Publishing, Standish, Maine, ISBN 978-1-932056-60-0). Described as a ‘hard-hitting reality check and survival guide for both new and experienced business owners,’ this book seems to be in the right place at the right time. Finding that no one book covered all the bases – writing the business plan, selecting the right location, hiring and dealing with employees, negotiating with the banks, controlling costs, meeting the needs of the customer, competing with major corporations and even how to close a business without closing any doors, Owen decided to put it all together and produce such a volume.”
Owen Jay Murphy's new book, "The Business of Small Business", is one of the best, most practical books on small business entrepreneurship we've yet encountered. Jay joined us by telephone for our "Get Your Life Back" show of 02/19/09... see the Show Archives page!

"Once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur—it is in the DNA. When you exit from one business, you must always consider the possibility of entering (starting) another. Owen Murphy's advice on preserving your options is right on target."
~ Dr. Lee Thomas

Learned.
“We all know the business “giants” in our communities, those big institutions that are recognized for their low prices, wide selection, and generally less-than-satisfactory customer service. That vulnerability is the “Achilles Heel” that Owen Murphy recommends the small business owner exploit to his or her advantage, and his suggestions are to critique the competition, to communicate personally with customers, and to continually improve service. Murphy has offered sound and practical advice on how to survive and prosper as a small business operator, and I applaud his efforts at making a difference in the competitive market today.”
~ Bruce K. Bell, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Business
Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia
“Packed with testimonials and key messages, Owen Jay Murphy sifts through the jargon and presents a straight-forward checklist on the essentials of good business: a dedication to hard work, a commitment to doing things right, and a careful eye on keeping costs to a minimum. This book provides an easy-to-read format for anyone interested in learning the basics of starting and running a small business.”
